The company ‘Glass Odyssey’ was officially formed
in February 2004 in the Isle of Man. Julie Anne Denton is
the founder of the Company and the principal glassmaker. Julie
explains why she chose that particular name for the company,
‘firstly all the work is made from glass. Secondly an
artist’s journey through the world can be quite a strange
one, facing hardship and delight along the way, but keeping
the main objective all the way there, which is to become the
best you can hope to be at what you do. So it reminded me
of the Greek story by Homer about Ulysses and his adventures
whilst he tried to go back home to Ithaca and his wife Penelope.
The story of course is ‘The Odyssey’ and so the
name of ‘Glass Odyssey’ was born.
At the moment Glass Odyssey is in very small premises in
Douglas, the Capital of the Isle of Man; but Julie plans
to move the company to a larger studio in the South of the
Island in Colby by September 2005.
